Colored Pencil Class, September, 2019
Instructor: Kate Lagaly

Join Kate at the brewery for an Art and Ale class!  Learn how to make beautiful
drawings using colored pencil.  Kate will show students how to use values to
create form, and to layer, color mix, and blend the colored pencils. Kate will
demonstrate techniques step by step with work time for you to try the techniques
on your own.  This class is for beginners up to intermediate level students.
**See supply list below**.

For this session we will work on 2 pieces over the 3 classes. We will use the
reference photos below:

The giraffe will be done on colored mat board and the blueberries will be done
on hot press watercolor paper. Kate will sell these papers to students at her cost.

Drawings and 4 x 6 color photos will be provided.

Supply List

Colored Pencils - I use Prismacolor.  Other artist quality brands will work if you already
have them.

The set of 72 Prismacolor colored pencils online are usually the least expensive at Cheap
Joe’s, Dick Blick, Jerry's Artarama, Walmart, or Amazon. Look for sales.

Optional - If you decide to order pencils online I suggest also ordering an extra White pencil
or two and a Pomegranate, Scarlet Lake, and Black Grape from Open Stock.

Sharpener - Another thing you might want to get is a battery powered pencil sharpener
with a stainless steel helical blade.  It makes life easier.

I use a battery sharpener like this for classes -

Helical blade -
OR you can use a small hand held blade sharpener -

Lifting, erasing, blending - I also use pencil top erasers and stik tak/adhesive
putty/poster putty/mounting putty for erasing, lifting and shading.  I use a drawing stump
for blending.

Surfaces - I will sell the papers we use to you at my cost.  I do this because many of the
papers are in pads of 25 sheets or cut up from a large sheet of 32" x 40".  It makes it less
expensive for you. The cost will be determined at a later date, but is usually under $4.00 total.

Transfer paper, Tape, Pencil - Depending on the surface, drawings are transferred
using white transfer and graphite paper.  You can get individual sheets of graphite and white.
I will have some sheets for shared student use in class. Bring some tape and a pencil as well.

Kate’s artwork can be seen at the brewery or online at http://katelagaly.blogspot.com/.
